Darth, I am your father
This seasonal piece of stencil graffiti if just up the road from me. It has actually been there for over a year now, and I’ve been meaning to photograph it that whole time! See and download the full gallery on posterousPosted by email from foomandoonian’s halfblog (posterous) | Comment »

Custom templates for Posterous?
I’m sure this has been suggested before, but Posterous really needs to offer some theming options. I happen to really like the design, and the colours work for me too, but it would be nice to have *some* flexibility. It could be as simple as just a few colour scheme presets or as advanced as full CSS access! In a similar vein, I’d love to be able to add some JavaScript (actually,...

You may recognise the props in the last two shots. The Dalek-tommyguns are from the terrible ‘Daleks in Manhattan’ episodes, while the jar with the strange alien creature used to house the disembodied hand of the Doctor that Jack kept around for a while. Newport wetlands, photos
For whatever reason, I found myself in the exotic wilderness of Nash, just outside Newport, today. They have a very expensive looking and somewhat overstaffed visitor center there, but it seemed to be popular with the twitchers. On the Tardis, Doctor Who set photos (part three)
The last of my pictures of the TARDIS set are all closeup details of the centre console. You can really see how cobbled together it is from common and garden parts. See and download the full gallery on posterousPosted by email from foomandoonian’s halfblog (posterous) | Comment »

Torchwood set photos: details, details, details
So, if Torchwood is such a super-secret, literally underground operation, then why do they brand everything? There is not a detail on the set that doesn’t have a logo - old or new - stuck to it somewhere. Even the drinking fountain! I had never realised from watching the show that the rift-manipulator, which is at the heart of the fountain structure, is a shrunk down version of the TARDIS...

Torchwood set photos: The subway
The ‘subway’ used to link the different Torchwoods together (Besides Cardiff, there is the one in London that featured in Doomsday, one in Glasgow, and apparently one that went missing). The network fell into disuse, so now it’s where they have pizza and beer. As realistic as all these tiles are, when you touch them you can tell that they’re painted wood and paper. The...

Torchwood set photos: Jack's office
Some more pictures of the Torchwood set. Check out the coral on Jack’s desk - apparently he’s trying to grow a TARDIS! The old style television sets appeared in the Dr Who episode, The Idiot’s Lantern. To the left, on the floor, you can see the hatch to Jack’s ‘bedroom’, where Chris Moyles got stuck. There is a copy of Little Dorrit on the desk, in reference to...

More long exposure abstracts
A few more long exposure abstracts - probably the last I’ll bother doing - but I do like the effect. I want to grab a tripod and try and get some good quality night photography, so look for that later. I especially like the last shot, which is a self portrait (of sorts) and gives away my secret method ;) So, any ideas how I can attach a ND filter to my point and shoot? See and...

Some night photography / long exposure abstracts
I stumbled across my camera’s long-exposure mode a few days ago - here are some of the better results. Llandaff Cathedral features again, by virtue of being on my walk home. Luckily enough, there seemed to be some evening choir thing going on, so it was all lit up. The rest were taken from the passenger seat of a car, handheld. The results are predictably abstract… See...

I hate the command line!
So, on Windows, if I want to move the My Documents folder elsewhere, I dig around in the settings and find out how to do that. It’s a little buried away, but you can find it logically enough. But if I want to do the same trick with my /home directory in Linux, I have to type in some gibberish. Now cutting and pasting isn’t hard, but if it goes wrong (like it just did) then I’m...

On the Tardis, Doctor Who set photos (part one)
Welcome aboard the Tardis. The ‘coral’ supports are literally paper mache, and very fragile. In contrast to the Torchwood set, the level of detail is much less, as some of these shots reveal. A selection of photos from the fantastic Torchwood set. This impressive 360º set was detailed for HD, so everything is highly realistic - until you touch it! Torchwood uses Linux! Ubuntu, to be exact...
Sadly this shot didn’t come out the clearest, but I spotted today that one of the computers on the Torchwood Hub set was running Ubuntu. It had VLC running, so I’m assuming that they use free software to play all the graphics that give you the illusion of a super-advanced OS. Photos: Urban and moorland
The picture of Cardiff Hospital was one of my early snapshots, but I’ve run it through GIMP here. The pictures of Bodmin Moor and Siblyback were taken in freezing conditions this last weekend! Again both, especially the Cheesewring picture, are heavily treated. The day was very overcast and all the photos came out dull. See and download the full gallery on posterousPosted by email...
