I might get a pair of these...
Oddly, although I’ve been aware of Nike ID for a while, it never occured to me to design my own pair. This was my first attempt. I like the simplicity, but I don’t feel like I’m getting my money’s worth unless I use all the colours and characters :P Posted by email from foomandoonian’s halfblog (posterous) | Comment »

I use Google Reader for EVERYTHING I find and want to check back on occasionally. I tried feedly for a while. It’s pretty good, but I didn’t like how it chose to present the feeds to me. I like Netvibes, and use it as my homepage on all my computers, but I keep my feeds on separate tabs, and don’t delve into them that often. I briefly used Thunderbird as a reader, but...

Great Eee-xpectations: Which distro for me?
Today I placed my order on Amazon for an Asus Eee PC 1000 (BK002, Linux Preloaded, 1GB RAM, 40GB SSD (Black)), so now I have my finger crossed that it arrives by the weekend, in good condition and that they didn’t screw up and send me a Windows one! Assuming all goes well, I still have one pressing decision - which distro goes on it? I don’t like the default Asus one, although...

Just a few random snapshots
I don’t have a thing for churches, but I do pass this one all the time. The doorway shot obeys the rule of thirds perfectly, but still came out a bit flat. Rules, eh? And I wonder if the Red Bull logo was endorsed by the company or not? I came across it in a pretty random part of town, which makes it all the odder. Some new photographs for today
I snuck out of work a bit early yesterday afternoon, and took a few nice pics of Llandaff Cathedral. I cross the railway bridge every day and often think of taking a photo. This morning the slight mist made it worthwhile. Generally I’m pretty happy with my new camera. The details tend to look a bit washy, especially if the light is slightly low, so I think I may install the CHDK firmware to...

My post clicked-on Tweets with links
I’m a big user of Bit.ly and Tweetburner, two URL shortening services that give you clickthrough stats. Here are some of my most clicked-on links (I’ve highlighted some of my personal favs): ‘A woman needs a fish like a bicycle needs a vagina: http://twurl.nl/3y137e #vagina #WTF’ (91 clicks) ‘Custom avatar creator FaceYourManga has been taking over the Interweb...

As of now, I currently have 555 followers, and am following 374. I’ve noticed that about 20-50 of you will generally follow an interesting link I post (in the first day). I’m curious to see how many people genuinely ‘follow’ what I’m tweeting! I’ll post my results at the weekend, after I’ve done a little more analysis. Also, sorry for spamming...

I love the concept of lifestreaming services, and I keep trying them, but they all seem to have the same fatal flaw. You set it up, and forget about it! So my Strand profile is up, if anyone is interested. I also have a Lifestream.fm profile here. FriendFeed and tumblr are the only ones that seems to have enough added value to be worthwhile, as far as I can see. I’ll bet most of these new...

First photos taken with my new IXUS
A dozen of the better snaps I took this weekend. The swan and the sunset came out really well, but the rest are pretty average. I’m pretty happy with the image quality, although the low-light stuff isn’t great (predictably enough) but if you can look past the grain, it actually balances the image pretty well. Posterous feature suggestion: Email signature...
The single most useful feature of Posterous is the ability to write blog posts via email. It’s the whole selling point, to me at least. Unfortunately, I work for a company that appends a signature disclaimer to the end of every email I send. I have no control over this - it’s added after I hit ‘send’! It’d be great if Posterous had an option to delete signatures...

Help me improve the @datahole feed!
Firstly, I need to find some good sources. I’m starting with the Open Rights Group (data protection tag) and The Register (Security / ID tag). I’d look at the EFF, but they seem to be down at the moment. I’m also using a Twitter Search feed for #datahole. I’m open to any and all suggestions for good news sources. I’m hoping the Twitter and Identica community will...

Just bought a new digital camera :)
I was tempted by the nice wide angle Lumix cameras, but ended up with a Canon IXUS 85 IS. Sadly, it’s not jet supported by the Canon Hacker’s Development Kit (CHDK), but I read a forum post saying one was in the works. I hope it ends up working on my model properly, because it was a big factor for me - RAW is important. I’ll post any good results on my Flickr stream. :) ...

Twitter themes for dummies
Twitter introduced new themes recently, which should help bring a bit of variety to profile pages, but a shocking amount of people seem to stick with the default twitter page design. Or worse, modify it badly and really bodge things up. Here’s a quick guide to making a nice theme. Pick a nice colour palette. Colour Lovers is great for this. I chose a monocromatic an aggressive red...

Follow: @datahole - Tweeting every time your data...
Tonight, my project is to add some polish to my Twitter project: Data Hole. It’s an automated Twitter account that uses Twitterfeed to post links to news stories about companies and governments that loose personal data records, or otherwise compromise your privacy. The goal is to raise awareness about the issue. At the moment it’s just taking in a Google News feed, but I plan to use...

Posterous comments = FAIL
I had a direct tweet with some feedback to my first post: ”I’d leave a comment (re tags), but Posterous requires me to sign up first - FAIL!” I think he raises a good point. Can we have OpenID support? Disqus or FriendFeed integration? Or just the ability to enable comments to non-Posterous users? Seems like a pretty basic omission to me… Posted by email from...
